The Captain's Lounge
A £1.2 million heritage lottery-funded refurbishment of Wicksteed Park's historic Pavilion restoring the Captain's Lounge, Fountain Garden, and Round Shelter. Works included enabling works and comprehensive renovation of the first-floor Captain's Lounge within the landmark 1921 building, whilst maintaining full operational access to the lower ground-floor ballroom throughout construction. Our specialists renovated century-old timber structures within a live visitor environment, restoring a decorative water fountain dormant since the 1950s. Our approach combined meticulous planning with careful selection of heritage trades, balancing conservation principles against modern standards whilst minimising disruption to park operations.
We pride ourselves on our ability to create a specialist team for every project — our stone carvers fabricated an entirely new fountain working solely from archival photography. Combined with a new plant room and modern mechanisms, we restored the building and surrounding garden to their former glory, demonstrating the technical capability and heritage sensitivity that complex conservation projects demand
